An interview with Lilly

Describe the best experience you had in the early period of dating, and why.

He approached me and started chatting, very easy going & low pressure chatting. (We were at a football game.) He was asking about me, if I liked certain events, etc., and then asked me out to a similar event we'd just been talking about. He called a couple days before the date to just touch base & finalize plans and found out that I was having some car trouble, so offered to come pick me up instead of just meeting me... which was very much out of his way. It was nice to know he was going out of his way in order to spend time with me. He let me know he was interested by holding the doors for me, taking my arm as I went up the steps, etc. Very gentlemanly, and not aggressive. When we arrived at our seats he took my hand, but that was it. It was so nice to not feel pressed to go beyond my own comfort zone.

Describe yourself at the time.

25, dating randomly. Happy with where I was, not looking for anything too serious.

OK. What's a big turnoff for women like you?

Having someone else approach me to find out if I was single/interested. I always figured if he wasn't willing to approach me himself he wasn't willing to risk anything in a relationship with me.

Any other tips?

Don't compare yourself to others. Chances are very good that those guys who are bragging about all their girlfriends/dates/whatever don't really have that much more experience than you.

Don't be afraid to put yourself out there. Sure there will be rejection, but if someone rejects you out of hand then they aren't worth spending time with anyway.
